How to Enjoy Autumn Photo Shoot without Freezing

October is one of the most favourite months among families to have their photos taken. I feel like Stockholm is absolutely breathtaking during Autumn and for that very reason October is one of my favourite months to shoot.

But the wide range of hues in nature that this month brings comes at a price. With changing colors come lower temperatures and to choose the right type of clothes for an outdoor family session at this time of the year might present a challenge for many families.

cozy but not bulky

The most prevalent concern of families when building their outfits for an outdoor photoshoot in October is how to balance comfort and practicality.

Wearing puffy winter coats isn't usually aesthetically pleasing and it definitely doesn't look very timeless in the pictures.

And let's be honest. Taking the coat off to take a picture quickly before you start feeling cold isn't the way either as it only takes you out of the moment and prevents you from enjoying yourselves!

so how should you approach photoshoot outfits for colder months?

Layers Are Your Best Friend! Build a multi-layer outfit with pieces that not only make you feel cozy but create a point of interest in photos, such as...

chunky knits

Start with a base of a cozy cable knit with interesting texture or a sweater with some pattern on it that will keep you warm. Knitwear brings a special charm to your Autumn photos as it is that typical piece of clothing we all think of when we think of Autumn.

vests, lighter jackets, thicker shirts

For a very cold weather where chunky knit isn't enough, continue with a jacket that compliments the sweater. This can either be an autumn longer trench coat or lighter winter coat. Or you can go completely different route and choose a shirt from a thicker material paired with a fleece/wool west.

scarves, hats, blankets

Accessories such as scarves and hats are so underestimated but constitute such a great addition to your autumn family shoot aesthetics! Not only will it keep you warm, it will also add an additional charm to your photos! Sometimes even a simple blanket with a nice Autumn pattern can achieve this!
